Sharks Push By Monks to Semifinals

The Sharks opened the scoring just over in a minute into the game off an unassisted goal by Becca Shea (Quincy, Mass.). Teammate Rachel Wallace (Braintree, Mass.) beat Monks goalkeeper Elizabeth Giacchino on a free position shot to double the score and freshman Stephanie Oliveri (Waltham, Mass.) scored off an assist from Shea within the first two minutes of the half.

Megan Coffey (Wilmot Flat, N.H.) tallied her first of three goals during a man up position by the Sharks before Monks midfielder Cassie Diplock beat Sharks goalkeeper Kelly Last (West Haven, Conn.) twice to cut the lead to three.

Wallace added her second tally of the game with 11:56 remaining in the half as the Sharks scored four unanswered goals to increase their lead 9-2. Diplock scored off a fast break with 1:45 left to play, but the Sharks took advantage of double man up position with goals by Lee Sutherland (Tuftonboro, N.H.) and Leanne Luke (Newton, Mass.) to end the half with an 11-3 advantage.

The Monks were the first to score in the second half off a goal from Lauren Bailey but the Sharks answered with four straight goals, two by Coffey and two by Luke to put the game out of reach.

Kelly Last made was spectacular in net, recording 14 saves and ten of eleven clears in the win for the Sharks, while Giacchino and Haley Nason combined for four saves for the Monks.

The Monks conclude their season with an overall record of 8-6 and 5-4 in the conference.

The Sharks (8-8, 6-3 GNAC) will play #1 seeded Norwich University on Thursday, April 26th in a semifinal matchup in Northfield, Vermont. The game time has yet to be determined.
