BOSTON, Mass. -- Simmons Lacrosse fell to the Emerson College Lions, 10-7 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play on a warm Tuesday evening. The Lions were led by sophomore midfielder Chelsea Philips, who scored five goals and added an assist on the evening.

The Sharks opened the scoring in the first half with as Rachel Wallace (Braintree, Mass.) danced through the Lions defense to beat Emily Saeger in net. Eight minutes later, Wallace found teammate Leanne Luke (Newton, Mass.) driving to the net for the Sharks second tally.

Philips struck first for the Lions with a goal off a free position to cut the Sharks lead in half. But less than thirty seconds later, freshman Stephanie Oliveri (Waltham, Mass.) found the back of the net, adding to the Sharks lead. Lions sophomore Tracie Lombardo beat Sharks goalkeeper Crystal Derosier (Kingston, Mass.) with seven minutes remaining in the first but Simmons maintained a 3-2 lead to end the half.

The Lions offense exploded in the second half, with four goals in the first ten minutes by Philips and Krystie Zoch. Sharks senior Lee Sutherland (Tuftonboro, N.H.) scored unassisted but a natural hatrick by Lombardo gave the Lions the lead for good. Megan Coffey (Wilmot Flat, N.H.) added two goals and five ground balls, while senior Meaghan Maurice (Portland, Maine) scored her fifth goal of the year off an assist from Sutherland who caused the Lions goaltender to turn the ball over before feeding a perfect pass to the senior.

The Sharks (2-3) return to the field on Thursday, March 22nd when they host Salve Regina for a 7:00 p.m. game. The Lions (2-0) host Gordon College on the same date at 6:00 p.m. in non-conference action.
