Wellesley Trips Up Sharks

BOSTON, Mass. -- Simmons Lacrosse fell to the Wellesley College Blue, 18-5 in non-conference action Wednesday evening. Wellesley junior Allison Robbins and freshman Claire Canty scored four goals apiece to lead the Blue (1-3) to their first victory of the season.

Wellesley scored three goals before senior Lee Sutherland (Tuftonboro, N.H.) put the Sharks on the scoreboard off an assist from Emily Kaley (Manchester, Maine). Junior Rachel Wallace (Braintree, Mass.) cut the lead again, beating Wellesley goalkeeper Tori Hysko. But the Blue capitalized on two free position shots by Robbins and Nathalie Gruet before Canty found the back of the net again.

Simmons senior Meaghan Maurice (Portland, Maine) scored unassisted to bring the Sharks within three but Wellesley scored eleven straight goals, two by Kate Lonergan and Meredith Roy, and one by Sierra Michaelsen, Elizabeth Clemetson, Canty, Gruet and Robbins to put the game away.

Wellesley outshot the Sharks 30-14 and won 18 of 25 draw controls with Hysko picking up her first win the of year.

The Sharks return to the field on March 17th at 12:00 p.m. when they travel to Emmanuel College to open Great Northeast Athletic Conference play. Wellesley travels to Drew on March 19th for a 4:30 p.m. start.
