Simmons Lacrosse came up one goal short in a hard fought GNAC quarterfinal match-up Wednesday night against the Mount Ida Mustangs. The loss brings the Sharks' run in the conference postseason to an end, and they finish the season 7-5 overall (5-4 GNAC). Mount Ida improves to 9-8 overall (5-4 GNAC) as they advance to the GNAC Semifinals.

Despite the loss, Head Coach Amanda Maxwell felt that this was the best game the team has played all season. "It was a total team effort, and everyone played with heart and desire. It was a phenomenal season."

Simmons scored first with a goal from junior Meaghan Maurice (Portland, Maine) less than two minutes into the game, but the Mustangs were quick to answer with an unassisted goal from Ebony Mills. The Sharks would score twice more to gain what would end up being their final lead of the game. In the last eight minutes of the first half the Mustangs would score four times to end with a 5-3 lead.
 
Simmons scored two quick goals in the second half to tie it up at 5-5. The Sharks and Mustangs battled back and forth for the remaining 26 minutes of play, but Simmons was unable to gain control of the lead.

Maurice, sophomore Emily Kaley (Manchester, Maine) and freshman Taylor Nisbet (Dartmouth, Mass.) would tally two goals each in the loss while Mount was lead by junior Jen Thompson who had three goals on the night.

Junior Lee Sutherland (Tuftonboro, N.H.) controlled four draws in the game and freshman Taylor Nisbet (Dartmouth, Mass.) and Seneca Martensson (East Longmeadow, Mass.) would each force three turnovers.

Sophomore Kelly Last (West Haven, Conn.) tallied 17 saves in the loss for the Sharks, while Katherine Chousa gathered eight saves and the win for Mount Ida.
