Simmons Lacrosse earned a big win against Great Northeast Athletic Conference rival Saint Joseph's College of Maine, 17-14, on Wednesday night to remain undefeated on their home field. The Sharks improve to 4-1 overall (2-0 GNAC). The loss is the first of the season for the Monks who are now 3-1 overall (1-1 GNAC).

Simmons was the first to score with a goal from sophomore Rachel Wallace (Braintree, Mass.), who then tallied three more unanswered goals to give the Sharks a 4-0 lead. Cassandra Diplock answered back at 15:15 for the Monks, and the two teams would battle back and forth for the next 15 minutes to end the first half with Simmons leading 11-8.
 
The Sharks came out strong in the second half, scoring first with a free position goal from sophomore Meg Coffey (Wilmot, N.H.) in the first minute of play. Head Coach Amanda Maxwell was pleased with the performance from her team noting, "Tonight we won because we played as a team from start to finish. I couldn't be happier."

Wallace again lead the Sharks in goals with six followed closely by junior Meaghan Maurice (Portland, Maine) and freshman Taylor Nisbet (Dartmouth, Mass.) with four goals apiece. The Monks were led by Alyssa Marchant with six goals and Cassandra Diplock with five.

Sophomore Kelly Last (West Haven, Conn.) picked up the win for the Sharks making 16 saves, while Taylor Allison made the start for the Monks and picked up the loss for St. Joseph's with 14 stops.

The Sharks will return to conference action on Wednesday April 6 at Rivier with a 4:00pm game, while Saint Joseph's will travel to GNAC opponent Mount Ida on Saturday at 4:00pm.
