Sharks fall to Lasers, 14-11

Simmons Lacrosse fell to visiting Lasell College, 14-11, on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Sharks break their five-game win streak and fall to 5-2 overall, 3-1 GNAC, while Lasell improves to 7-4, 4-1 GNAC.

Simmons Lacrosse defeated Great Northeast Athletic Conference rival Emmanuel College, 17-7, in their final regular season match-up at home on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Sharks improve to 7-4 overall and 5-3 in conference play. The loss ends the season for the Saints who finished 3-9 overall and 2-7 in the GNAC. Saturday was also Senior Day for the Sharks. Lacrosse will graduate just two athletes from their young program this spring; Sarah Pontarelli (Naragansett, R.I.) and Jen Szkolt (Bondsville, Mass.).

Freshman Taylor Nisbet (Dartmouth, Mass.) led the Sharks offense, scoring five goals. She was assisted by junior Meaghan Maurice (Portland, Maine) with three goals and one apiece from Lee Sutherland (Tuftonboro, N.H.), Leanne Luke (Newton, Mass.) and Rachel Wallace (Braintree, Mass.). Sutherland also had two assists on the day. Sophomore Kelly Last (West Haven, Conn.) made 13 saves in goal for Simmons.

For Lasell, Ashley Slattery led her team with four goals, followed by two each from Tina Canavan, Britney Wuorio and Rebecca Stanton. Canavan and Wuorio also had two assists each.

Simmons will regroup and return to action on Wednesday, April 13 when the Sharks host Mount Ida at the Winsor School fields at 7:00pm.
