Crew Takes Home Hardware, Claiming First-Place at the Textile River Regatta

LOWELL, Mass. - In their first race since fall, 2019, Simmons rowing began the 2021-22 season taking home first-place honors in the Women's Open 8+ at the 2021 Textile River Regatta on Sunday.

Racing against the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy and UMass Lowell, the Sharks edged out the Mariners for first place by a minute and half, finishing with a time of 18:09.01. First-year Olivia Murray guided the crew of Madeline Hedrick, Steffi Gaehde, Maude Elovitz, Libby Taylor, Claudia S. Spedding, Samantha Merrow, Maggie O'Byrne and Jordan Kim to win.

With the long pause on racing, this was the first varsity race for the majority of the team. Murray along with Hedrick, Taylor, Spedding, Merrow and Kim all grabbed a gold medal finish in their first varsity appearance.

 Simmons returns to the river on Oct. 24 at the Head of the Charles in the Collegiate 8+.
