Seven from Crew Named to 2018 NEWMAC Rowing Academic All-Conference Team

WESTWOOD, Mass. -- Simmons College senior Ronnie Bennett (Pottstown, Pa.), juniors Kellie Cann (Needham, Mass.) and Madison Summers (Hudson, N.H.) and sophomores Hannah Dike (Leominster, Mass.), Ally Fecteau (Burlington, Conn.), Peizhu Pam Qian (Beijing, China/Developing Virtue Secondary Girls School (Calif.)), and Rebecca Ramsey (Jefferson, Mass.) were named to the 2018 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference Rowing All-Academic Team, it was announced by the league.

WESTWOOD, Mass. -- Simmons College senior Ronnie Bennett (Pottstown, Pa.), juniors Kellie Cann (Needham, Mass.) and Madison Summers (Hudson, N.H.) and sophomores Hannah Dike (Leominster, Mass.)Ally Fecteau (Burlington, Conn.)Peizhu Pam Qian (Beijing, China/Developing Virtue Secondary Girls School (Calif.)), and Rebecca Ramsey (Jefferson, Mass.) were named to the 2018 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference Rowing Academic All-Conference Team, it was announced by the league.

Honorees must have met the following criteria: earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5/4.0 scale or 4.35/5.0 scale after the 2017 fall semester, achieved second year academic status at her institution, and been a member of the varsity team for the entire season.

Bennett is named to the academic squad for the third straight year, while Cann and Summers each receive recognition for the second year in a row. Dike, Fecteau, Qian and Ramsey are each honored in their first year of eligibility for the academic team. 

Bennett, Dike and Qian have rowed with the First Varsity Eight the entire season, while Cann joined the 1V8 in the Seven Sisters Championship in the fall, before suffering an injury in the spring. Ramsey and Summers have been consistent contributors with Second Varsity Eight and Fecteau has served as coxswain for both the 1V and 2V8's this season.

The Sharks will be in action on Saturday morning, when they compete in the NEWMAC Championship on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass. 

The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference consists of 11 highly selective institutions committed to academic excellence: Babson College, Clark University, U.S Coast Guard Academy, Emerson College, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Mount Holyoke College, Smith College, Springfield College, Wellesley College, Wheaton College, and Worcester Polytechnic Institute. Simmons College is an Associate Member in the sport of rowing.
