Five-Point Day by Badra Helps Field Hockey Blank Regis College, 10-0

BRIGHTON, Mass. – Simmons field hockey (10-3, 6-3 GNAC) blanked Regis College, 10-0, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Saturday morning.

On Senior Day, the lone Shark senior, Aria Badra, scored the eventual game-winner nearly four minutes into the contest and Simmons was off to the races. Three minutes later, junior Sydney Gonyea connected with fellow classmate Anna Tedeschi to put the Sharks up two at the end of the first quarter.

With a two-goal lead, the Sharks added to their lead, scoring five goals in the second quarter to increase their lead to seven. Registering three goals in the period, Gonyea scored the first and last goals of the period with a third in the 26th minute as the Sharks took a 7-0 lead into halftime.

Coming out at the start of the second half, Badra recorded her second goal of the game in the third quarter. Then midway through the fourth and final period, Badra connected with sophomore Ainslee Shrout for team's ninth goal. Gonyea capped off the 10-goal game finding first-year Ava Kahl in front of the net with just over five minutes remaining.

SIMMONS HIGHLIGHTS

  • Senior Aria Badra registered two goals and one assist for five points on Senior Day.
  • Junior Sydney Gonyea notched a hat-trick for the second straight game, tallying three goals and two assists for eight points.
  • Sophomore Ainslee Shrout recorded her first collegiate career goal, scoring the final goal of the game in the 54th minute.
