BRIGHTON, Mass. – Simmons field hockey (8-2) returned to their winning ways picking up a non-conference win over Fitchburg State University (2-7) on Tuesday evening.

Following back-to-back shots on the cage by juniors Anna Tedeschi and Sydney Gonyea midway through the first quarter, the Sharks struck first. Gonyea collected her own rebound and pushed the ball towards the lower right-side of the cage where senior Aria Badra swatted the ball into the back of the cage with authority.

The Sharks took the one-goal game into the halftime after a scoreless second period. But a minute into the third period, Fitchburg State scored the equalizer.

It was a short-lived tie. Two minutes later the Sharks took advantage of Falcons' goalkeeper Jenna Morse coming too far out of the cage. Badra connected with first-year Ava Kahl for the game-winner in the 33rd minute as Simmons held on for their eighth win of the season.
