Tedeschi Propels Field Hockey to Seventh Victory of the Season

BRIGHTON, Mass. – Simmons field hockey (7-1) earned their second straight win over Wheaton College (3-6), 2-0, in non-conference action on Wednesday evening.

Earning a pair of penalty corners in the opening quarter, momentum favored the Sharks. Simmons was able to connected on their first half penalty scorners as Lyons' goalkeeper Emma Lapreziosa came up with big saves as the two teams played a scoreless first half.

At the start of the second half, the Sharks offense continued pressure the Lyons and looked poised to score. From the top of the arc, junior Hannah Groves guided a pass to fellow classmate Anna Tedeschi, who broke up the stalemate with her 11th goal of the season.

 

Just before the period ended Simmons struck again. This it time, junior Sydney Gonyea slide the ball along the end line, which found Tedeschi's stick for her second goal of the game and give the Sharks' a two-goal cushion. 

Making just her third start of the season, first-year Sam Buck improved to 3-0 on the season registering three saves in the contest. 

SIMMONS HIGHLIGHTS

  • Junior forward Anna Tedeschi registered two goals, including the game-winner in the 41st minute. Now sits one point shy of 100 career points.
  • Junior Hannah Groves recorded her seventh assist on the season, connecting with Tedeschi on the game-winner.
  • First-year goalkeeper Sam Buck moved to 3-0 on the season, tallying three saves.
