Field Hockey Moves to 2-0 on the Season Shutting out Albertus Magnus

BRIGHTON, Mass. – Simmons field hockey (2-0, 1-0 GNAC) earned their second victory of the season with a 7-0 win over Albertus Magnus (0-2, 0-2 GNAC) to open Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play on Wednesday afternoon.

The Sharks wasted little time, jumping on the scoreboard less than four minutes into the game. Junior Sydney Gonyea found classmate Anna Tedeschi in front of the cage to take the 1-0 advantage. A minute later, the Sharks pushed their lead to two off a penalty corner. Gonyea added a goal, tipping in a pass from junior Emilia Elko. Two minutes later, Elko concluded a three-goal first period with her second goal of the season

Despite leading by three goals, Simmons kept the pressure on the Albertus Magnus. Tedeschi registered her second goal of the game in the opening minutes of the second quarter, but before the period was over first-year Nellie Long sent the Sharks into half time with a five-point, scoring her first collegiate career goal.

When the teams returned for the start of the second half, Tedeschi added her third goal of the game midway through the third. Six minutes later another first-year registered her first career goal knocking the ball in from in front of the net.

First-year goalkeeper Sam Buck earned her first victory of her career playing all 60 minutes in net for the Sharks.
