Field Hockey Closes Out Regular Season with 14-1 Win over Albertus Magnus; Looks to Playoffs

BRIGHTON, Mass. – Simmons field hockey (10-5, 8-3 GNAC) closed out the regular season with a convincing, 14-1, victory over Albertus Magnus College (0-12, 0-11 GNAC) on Thursday afternoon.

First-year attacker Sydney Gonyea and sophomore Aria Badria each registered a hat-trick in the win, scoring three goals. Gonyea put the Sharks on the board early, knocking in a pass from Hannah Groves to give the Sharks a 1-0 lead. Two minutes later fellow first-year Anna Tedeschi scored to make in 2-0.

Midway through the second quarter, senior Brianna Desharnais scored her first goal of the season before adding an assist, connecting with Tedeschi in the third quarter. Fellow seniors Emily Plummer and Haley Dover also got on the board, scoring in the second and third quarters respectively.

SIMMONS HIGHLIGHTS

  • All three seniors scored senior night – Emily Plummer found the back of the goal in the 17th minute, five minutes later Brianna Desharnais scored her first of the season and Haley Dover in the 39th minute.
  • First-year Sydney Gonyea registered her third hat-trick of the season with three goals.
  • Sophomore Aria Badria recorded her first goal of her career in the 11th minute as she also recorded a hat-trick, scoring twice more in the 14th minute and 26th minute.
