Sheehan, Gonyea Grab GNAC Goalkeeper and Rookie of the Week Honors

WINTHROP, Mass. – Junior goalkeeper Emma Sheehan and first-year attacker Sydney Gonyea took home Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Goalkeeper and Rookie of the Week honors announced Monday afternoon.

Sheehan earned her second Goalkeeper of the Week honors guided the Sharks to a 2-0 week and climb to fourth in the conference standings. In a midweek match against Lasell, Sheehan picked up a pivotal 2-1 overtime decision registering a pair of saves in nearly 65 minutes. She closed out the week earning her seventh victory of the season in a 4-1 road win over Anna Maria, recording four saves.

Gonyea secured Rookie of the Week honors for the second time this season following a three-goal, one assist and seven-point week against Lasell and Anna Maria. In a 2-1 overtime victory over Lasell, Gonyea broke a scoreless tie in the fourth quarter, tipping in a pass from Maddie Beckwith. She closed out the week, registering her second two-goal game in three games in a 4-1 victory over Anna Maria, which included scoring the game-winner in the fifth minute. She is currently ranked third amongst conference leaders in goals against GNAC opponents with eight.

Simmons returns to the field on Wednesday Oct. 20 when they travel to Standish, Maine for a 6 p.m. game against conference leading Saint Joseph's (ME).
