First-Years Help Propel Field Hockey To Victory over Anna Maria

PAXTON, Mass. – Simmons field hockey (7-5, 5-3 GNAC) won its third straight game with a 4-1 victory over Anna Maria College (4-10, 2-6 GNAC) in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action, Saturday afternoon.

First-year Sydney Gonyea gave the Sharks a quick 2-0 advantage, scoring the first two goals in the opening quarter. Twenty-five seconds into the game she registered her first goal, then in the fifth minute she scored off a pass from Haley Dover. The Amcats broke up the shut-out in the second quarter on a goal by Chayna Bingham-Hendricks to cut the lead in half.

However, coming out half time, first-year Anna Tedeschi pushed the lead back to two, scoring on a breakway in the 41st minute. She sealed the game with her second goal in the fourth quarter.

Junior goalkeeper Emma Sheehan finished with four stops in a near shutout.  

SIMMONS HIGHLIGHTS

  • It was first-year Sydney Gonyea's fourth multi-goal game and second in three games with two goals and an assist.
  • First-year Anna Tedeschi registered her second multiple goal contest of the season with two goals in the second half.
  • Junior Emma Sheehan picked up her seventh win with four saves.
