Elko's Three-Goal Day Helps Field Hockey Snap Three-Game Skid

BRIGHTON, Mass. – The Simmons field hockey snapped a three-game skid with an 8-0 shutout over Regis College (1-7, 1-5 GNAC) on Saturday morning. Registering a natural hat-trick, Emilia Elko led the way with three goals for the Sharks.

Eight minutes into the contest, first-year Anna Tedeschi put the Sharks on the scoreboard tipping in pass from Hannah Groves to take a 1-0 advantage. Moments later first-year Sydney Gonyea added to the Shark lead in the 15th minute before senior Haley Dover scored from the top of the circle to send the Sharks into halftime with a 3-0 lead.

Returning to the field after the break, Elko scored the first three goals on the second half as Simmons began to run away with the game. Gonyea and Dover scored their second goals of the game in fourth quarter to seal the win for Simmons.

Junior goalkeeper Emma Sheehan picked up her fifth win of the season, improving to 5-5 and 3-3 against conference foes.

  • Emilia Elko registered a career game-high scoring three goals, including a natural hat-trick.
