Field Hockey Drops Road Loss to Johnson & Wales

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Simmons field hockey (4-5, 2-3 GNAC) fell to Johnson & Wales University (8-3, 4-1 GNAC) in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action, Wednesday evening.  

The Sharks jumped in front early. Junior Maddie Beckwith scored her fifth goal of the season, burying the ball in the back of the goal in the 11th minute to take a 1-0 lead, which the Sharks cared into the half. 

However, when the teams return to the field in the second half, momentum shifted in the direction of Johnson & Wales. The Wildcats scored equalizer in the third quarter before McKayla Weaver scored the game-winner in the 53rd minute to send the Wildcats to the eighth victory.

SIMMONS HIGHLIGHTS

  • Junior Maddie Beckwith scored her fifth goal of the season in the 11th minute to give the Sharks the 1-0 lead.
  • Junior goalie Emma Sheehan recorded eight saves in the loss.
