NEW LONDON, N.H. – Simmons field hockey suffered its first loss in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action falling to Colby-Sawyer, 2-0, on the road, Wednesday afternoon.

Coming into the game, the teams were only two of four GNAC programs without a conference loss and the game lived up to its billing. The entire first half was a tight battle between the goalkeepers. Junior goalkeeper Emma Sheehan registered seven saves in the first half to keep the game scoreless.

However, four minutes into the second half, the Colby-Sawyer's Aoife Daly broke up the scoreless tie and put the Chargers on the board with an unassisted goal. Daly added an insurance goal in the fourth quarter, but it was all the Chargers needed as they held on to the 2-0 shutout win.

SIMMONS HIGHLIGHTS

  • Reigning goalkeeper of the week Emma Sheehan registered nine saves, including seven in the first half to keep the game tied at zero.
  • First-year forward Aria Badia led the offense with a shot-on net for the Sharks.
