Tedeschi, Sheehan Net a Pair of GNAC Weekly Honors

WINTHROP, Mass. – Simmons field hockey grabbed a pair of Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) weekly honors announced Monday afternoon. First-year attacker Anna Tedeschi secured Rookie of the Week honors, while junior goalkeeper Emma Sheehan was tabbed as the GNAC Goalkeeper of the Week.

Tedeschi helped guide the Sharks to a 1-1 week, which included a 2-0 road shutout win over conference foe Elms College on Saturday. The south shore native scored the eventual game-winner in the 14th minute then added an insurance goal in the second quarter to lift the Sharks over the Blazers. Tedeschi is the second Simmons rookie to earn the coveted honors as classmate Sydney Gonyea took home the honors in week one.  

Sheehan picked up her, conference-leading, second shutout of the season following a 2-0 victory over Elms College, Saturday afternoon. Against the Blazers, the Taunton, Massachusetts native recorded a pair of saves and his currently tied for first with a 0.00 goals against average against conference opponents. It was Simmons second shutout of the season and currently lead the conference with two on the season.

Simmons returns to the field on Wednesday, Sept. 29 when they travel north to New London, N.H. for a GNAC tilt against Colby-Sawyer at 3:30 p.m.
