Field Hockey Blanks Elms, 2-0, to Earn Second Shutout of the Year

CHICOPEE, Mass. – Simmons field hockey (4-2, 2-0 GNAC) returned to its winning ways following a 2-0 shut-out over Elms College (3-4, 3-2 GNAC), Saturday afternoon.

The game was scoreless throughout much of the first quarter until Simmons first-year Anna Tedeschi broke up the stalemate with just six seconds remaining in the period. Midway through the second period, the Sharks added an insurance goal. Senior Emily Plummer connected with Tedeschi for her second goal of the game in the 19th minute to take a 2-0 lead.

It was all Simmons was going to need. Junior goalie Emma Sheehan played outstanding in goal, registering two saves to keep the Blazers off the board and earn her fourth victory and second shutout of the season.

SIMMONS HIGHLIGHTS

  • First-year Anna Tedeschi scored the game-winner in the 14th minute then added her second goal of the game five minutes later, to tie her with Maddie Beckwith for second on the team with four goals on the season.
  • Junior goalie Emma Sheehan picked up her second shutout of the year and currently leads the GNAC with two.
