Beckwith Registers Natural Hat-Trick; Field Hockey Opens GNAC Action with Win Over Dean

BRIGHTON, Mass. – Junior Maddie Beckwith registered a natural hat-trick as Simmons field hockey defeated Dean College, 11-1, to open Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at Daly Field, Saturday afternoon.

After a scoreless first quarter, Beckwith broke the stalemate in the 18th minute. It felt like déjà vu, as a minute later Beckwith found the back the net again before scoring her third straight goal in the 23rd minute.

The flood gates then opened for the Sharks. Reigning GNAC Rookie of the Week Sydney Gonyea, ended the first half and opened the second half scoring back-to-back goals. Following her third quarter goal, she connected with classmate Anna Tedeschi to give the Sharks a convincing 6-0 lead. Gonyea added her, team-leading, sixth goal of the season in the 39th minute.

Trailing by 10, the Bulldogs' Zoe Coleman broke up the shutout with under 10 minutes to play in the half

Junior Emma Sheehan earned her third win of the season.
