WINTHROP, Mass. – Following a hat-trick to begin the 2021 season, first-year Sydney Gonyea earned Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Rookie of the Week honors announced Tuesday afternoon.

Gonyea guided the Sharks to a 2-0 week, which included the program's first win in program-history over Clark on Wednesday. Against the Cougars, the Lebanan, N.H. native registered her first collegiate hat-trick scoring the first goal of the contest in the 23^rd minute to break up the scoreless tie that lasted throughout the entire first quarter. Gonyea added to the Shark lead in the 42st minutes and seven minutes later notched her third in the 48^th minute. 

Additionally, she connected with fellow first-year Cameron Jester for the final Simmons tally in the 57^th minute. Gonyea helped the Sharks close out the week with the program's third straight victory against non-conference foe UMass-Dartmouth, shutting out the Corsairs, 4-0.
