The squad is comprised of nearly 1,750 student-athletes from 147 schools in NCAA Division III. 

The Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad includes all student-athletes with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.30 or greater through the first semester of the 2018-19 academic year. 

The Sharks have had 10 or more team members land a spot on the National Academic Squad in each of the last five years and only 25 other schools in the nation boasted more honorees than Simmons this season. The Sharks count 14 among its student-athletes, who compiled a GPA of 3.5 or better and one student-athlete who maintained a perfect 4.0 following the fall semester at the Fenway school.

The following student-athletes from Simmons earned a spot on the squad for the first time: First years Brianna Desharnais (Freedom, N.H.), Lilly Devitt (Belmont, Mass.), Michela Platt (Waltham, Mass.), Emily Plummer (San Diego, Calif.), and sophomore Cindy Murphy (Revere, Mass.). Sophomores McKinley Croteau (Keene, N.H.), Maggie Fuzak (Buffalo, N.Y.), Lucy McNamara (Brewster, Mass.) and Liz Poteat (Westfield, Mass.) along with senior Ana Giarrusso (Hingham, Mass.) all repeated on the National Academic Squad for the second time. Juniors Meg Pereira (New Bedford, Mass.), Krystianna Pietrzak (Bennington, Vt.), Hannah Scott (Claremont, N.H.), Olivia Trull (Lowell, Mass.) and the senior pair of Adrianna Fournier (Newport, Vt.) and Meghan Fontaine (Westminster, Mass.). all received recognition for the third time.

In addition, the Sharks were recognized for the 2018 Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Collegiate National Academic Team Award for the 18th consecutive year after posting a team GPA of 3.55. 

Simmons finished the season with a 7-12 record, including 4-3 in conference play and earned the number four seed in the GNAC Championship Tournament, before bowing out in the semifinals.
