McNamara Named GNAC Field Hockey Goalkeeper of the Week Again

WINTHROP, Mass. ? Simmons University?s Lucy McNamara (Brewster, Mass.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Field Hockey Goalkeeper of the Week for the week of October 1-7, it was announced today by the league.

WINTHROP, Mass. – Simmons University's Lucy McNamara (Brewster, Mass.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Field Hockey Goalkeeper of the Week for the week of October 1-7, it was announced today by the league. 

McNamara earns the award for the second straight week to become the first Shark to be named the GNAC's top weekly goalie for two consecutive weeks since Brianna Rastello (2013-16) was tabbed for the final three weeks of September 2014. 

The sophomore posted a 1.40 goals against average in 150 minutes of action, while owning an .833 save percentage with 15 saves in two matches. McNamara stopped 10 of 11 shots in a 1-0 overtime loss that saw her deny visiting Smith College for the first 80 minutes of play on October 3, before the Pioneers were able to break through with no time left on the clock on a penalty corner situation. A graduate of Nauset Regional High School, McNamara registered five saves in a 4-2 victory at Johnson & Wales University on October 6 to cap the week. 

For the season, McNamara has started all 11 matches for Simmons, while owning a 2.18 goals against average in 738:52 minutes of action. She has recorded 61 saves for a .726 save percentage, while posting a shutout. The second-year keeper currently ranks third among GNAC leaders in goals against average and fifth in save percentage as well as third in minutes played. McNamara has been outstanding over her last three outings, turning in a 0.95 GAA in 220 minutes of play to go with a .870 save mark with 20 stops. She has made five or more saves on seven occasions this year, including a season-high of 10 vs. Smith. 

In less than two seasons, McNamara has started all 30 matches that she's appeared in and made 176 saves for the third-most for any Sharks goalie in the past 15 years. She also maintains a 1.87 goals against mark and a .765 career save percentage to go with four lifetime shutouts. McNamara was named the GNAC Rookie of the Year in 2017 and was also tabbed a Second Team All-Conference honoree. 

Simmons is currently 4-8 on the season, including 2-2 in GNAC play and will be in action again on Wednesday, October 10 when it travels to South Hadley, Mass. to take on Mount Holyoke College at 7:00 p.m.
