McNamara Named GNAC Field Hockey Goalkeeper of the Week

WINTHROP, Mass. ? Simmons University?s Lucy McNamara (Brewster, Mass.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Field Hockey Goalkeeper of the Week for the week of October 1-7, it was announced today by the league.

WINTHROP, Mass. – Simmons University's Lucy McNamara (Brewster, Mass.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Goalkeeper of the Week for the week of September 24-30, it was announced today by the league. 

The honor marks the second time that McNamara has earned the award after receiving the accolade for the week of September 4-10 last season. 

In the Sharks' only match of the week, the sophomore made five saves to record her fourth career shutout in a 6-0 victory over Rivier University on September 29. 

For the season, McNamara has started all nine matches, while playing 588:52 minutes to rank third among GNAC goalies in minutes played. The Nauset Regional High School product has posted a 2.38 goals against average to stand fifth in the conference, while making the sixth-most saves (46) among GNAC keepers. McNamara owns a .697 save percentage and has one shutout for the season. She turned in a season-high of nine saves at Wheaton College (Mass.) on September 19. 

In just a season and a half, McNamara has started all 28 matches that she's appeared in and made 161 saves for the third-most for any Simmons goalie in the past 15 years. She also maintains a 1.91 goals against mark and a .759 career save percentage to go with four lifetime shutouts. McNamara was named the GNAC Rookie of the Year in 2017 and was also tabbed a Second Team All-Conference honoree. 

The Sharks are currently 3-7 on the season, including 1-2 in league play and return to action on Tuesday, October 2 when they host Smith College at Daly Field for a 7:00 p.m. tilt.
