18 From Field Hockey Named to Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA National Academic Squad

GILBERT, Ariz. – The Simmons College field hockey team saw 18 student-athletes named to the Zag Field Hockey/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III National Academic Squad, it was announced by the NFHCA. 

The squad is comprised of over 1,700 student-athletes from 149 schools in NCAA III. 

The Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad includes all student-athletes with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.30 or greater through the first semester of the 2017-18 academic year. 

The Sharks have had 10 or more team members land a spot on the National Academic Squad in each of the last four years and only 11 other schools in the nation boasted more honorees than Simmons this season. The Sharks count 14 among its student-athletes, who have compiled a career GPA of 3.5 or better and one student-athlete who has maintained a perfect 4.0 throughout her tenure at the Fenway school.

The following student-athletes from Simmons earned a spot on the squad for the first time: First years Abigail Anderson (South Yarmouth, Mass.), Delaney Conway (Derry, N.H.), McKinley Croteau (Keene, N.H.), Maggie Fuzak (Buffalo, N.Y.), Sydney Hopkins (North Hampton, N.H.), Lucy McNamara (Brewster, Mass.) and Elizabeth Poteat (Westfield, Mass.). Student-Athletes, who repeated for the second time are: Sophomores Meg Pereira (New Bedford, Mass.), Krystianna Pietrzak (Bennington, Vt.), Hannah Scott (Claremont, N.H.), Audrey Simmons (Fairhaven, Mass.), Olivia Trull (Lowell, Mass.) and juniors Adrianna Fournier (Newport, Vt.), Missie Maiewski (Northampton, Mass.) and Meghan Fontaine (Westminster, Mass.). Receiving recognition for the third timer is senior Eryn Melanson (Townsend, Mass.). Seniors Sammy Rondeau (Franklin, Mass.) and Julie Kellndorfer (Amherst, N.H.) were two of a select few, who have been honored all four years of their respective careers.

In addition, the Sharks were recognized for the 2016 Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Collegiate National Academic Team Award for the 17th consecutive year after posting a team GPA of 3.56. 

Simmons finished the season with a 12-7 record, including 5-2 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play. The Sharks advanced to the GNAC Semifinals before bowing to conference champion Saint Joseph's College (Maine).
