McNamara Named GNAC Field Hockey Rookie of the Week for Third Time

WINTHROP, Mass. ? Simmons College?s Lucy McNamara (Brewster, Mass.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Field Hockey Rookie of the Week for the week of October 2-8, it was announced today by the league. The honor marks the second time this season that McNamara has received the accolade, having been named both the GNAC?s top rookie and also goalkeeper for the week of September 4-10. She is the only player in the conference to have earned the Rookie of the Week award multiple times this season.

WINTHROP, Mass. – Simmons College's Lucy McNamara (Brewster, Mass.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Field Hockey Rookie of the Week for the week of October 9-15, it was announced today by the league. She has earned the award in back-to-back weeks and has been named the GNAC's top rookie a conference-high three times, including the week of September 4-10. 

McNamara made 19 saves in two matches to post a stellar .826 save percentage, while owning a 2.00 goals against average in 140 minutes of action. The first year began the week by matching her career high with 13 saves in a 2-0 loss to visiting Mount Holyoke College on October 11. The goalkeeper capped the week by stopping six of eight shots in a 2-1 setback to visiting Saint Joseph's College (Maine) on October 14. 

McNamara has been outstanding in her first collegiate campaign for the Sharks, posting a 9-5 record, while logging 965:09 minutes to rank second among conference leaders. A graduate of Nauset Regional High School, she also stands second among GNAC leaders with a .794 save percentage, while ranking third with a 1.52 goals against mark. The rookie has recorded a pair of shutouts on the season and has allowed more than two goals in a game just twice. McNamara put together a four-match stretch from September 3-13, where she allowed just three scores in 246:23 of play for a 0.85 GAA and a .870 save percentage. 

Simmons currently owns a 9-5 overall record, including 5-2 in conference play and returns to action on Tuesday, October 17 when it hosts New England College on Daly Field at 7:00 p.m.
