McNamara Named GNAC Field Hockey Goalkeeper and Rookie of the Week

WINTRHOP, Mass. ? Simmons College?s Lucy McNamara (Brewster, Mass.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Goalkeeper and Rookie of the Week for the week of September 4-10, it was announced today by the league. 

WINTRHOP, Mass. – Simmons College's Lucy McNamara (Brewster, Mass.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Goalkeeper and Rookie of the Week for the week of September 4-10, it was announced today by the league. 

McNamara becomes only the second rookie and first since Megan Baker from Saint Joseph's College (Maine), on October 19, 2015, to win both awards in conference history. 

In two matches, the first year posted a 1.00 goals against average allowing just two goals in 140 minutes of action, while making 17 saves to record a sterling .895 save percentage. 

A graduate of Nauset Regional High School, McNamara stopped a season-high 13 shots in a 1-0 loss at Worcester Polytechnic Institute on September 5. The rookie capped the week by turning away four of five shots in a 4-1 victory over conference foe Mount Ida College on September 9. 

For the season, McNamara owns a 1.99 GAA and has 28 saves to contribute to a .778 save mark in 281:23 minutes of action. The Cape Cod native has played every minute of all four matches for the Sharks and ranks fifth among conference leaders and first among rookies in goals against average and save percentage. 

Simmons is currently 2-2 for the season, including    1-0 in GNAC action. The Sharks return to action on Wednesday, September 13 when they play cross-street rival Wheelock College at nearby Winsor Field in an 8:00 p.m. start.
