Field Hockey Remains Undefeated in GNAC Play with 2-0 Win at Anna Maria

PAXTON, Mass. - The Simmons College field hockey team scored a pair of goals in the first half en-route to a 2-0 victory over host Anna Maria College this morning at AMCAT Field in Paxton, Mass. The Sharks have won five of their last six games to improve to 5-3 overall and 2-0 in league play, while the AMCATS fall to 4-5 and 1-2.

PAXTON, Mass. - The Simmons College field hockey team scored a pair of goals in the first half en-route to a 2-0 victory over host Anna Maria College this morning at AMCAT Field. The Sharks have won five of their last six games to improve to 5-3 overall and 2-0 in league play, while the AMCATS fall to 4-5 and 1-2.

Simmons controlled the match, outshooting its host, 20-5, while holding a 10-2 advantage on penalty corners.

The Sharks got on the board early as junior forward Sammy Rondeau (Franklin, Mass.) poked in a cross from senior forward Jenna Gagnon (Waterville, Maine) just eight minutes into the game for her fifth goal of the year and a 1-0 edge. 

Simmons struck again with just 11 seconds remaining in the half as junior forward Julie Saltamartini (East Hampstead, N.H.) tallied her team-leading 10th goal of the season when she took a cross on the run from Gagnon and found the back of the cage.  

At the end of the first half, the Sharks held a 12-1 lead in shots and a 7-0 advantage in penalty corners.

Senior goalie Brianna Rastello (Salem, N.H.) made three saves to record her 14th career shutout for Simmons, while junior goalie Bryanna Tobin (Deep River, Conn.) stopped nine shots for Anna Maria.

The Sharks return to action on Tuesday, September 27 when they host Smith College at Daly Field at 7:00 p.m., while the AMCATS head to Weston, Mass. on the same night for a 6:30 match with Regis College.
