Field Hockey Edges Thomas, 2-1

BOSTON, Mass. ? The Simmons College field hockey team erased a one-goal deficit and scored two unanswered goals for a 2-1 victory over Thomas College this afternoon at Daly Field in Brighton, Mass. The Sharks win their second straight match and improve to 2-2 on the season, while the Terriers fall to 2-3. The match followed the college?s Ribbon Cutting Ceremony to officially open the Daly Athletics Complex. 

NORTON, Mass. - The Wheaton College field hockey team overcame a 1-0 deficit with a pair of second half goals to earn a 2-1 victory over visiting Simmons College this evening at Diane C. Nordin '80 field in Norton, Mass. The Sharks fall to 4-3 on the season, while the Lyons improve to 3-4.

BOSTON, Mass. ? First year forward Olivia Trull (Lowell, Mass.) scored a goal and assisted on another to lead the Simmons College field hockey team to a 2-1 victory over visiting Lasell College in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference match this afternoon at Daly Field in Brighton, Mass. The Sharks improve to 6-4 overall, including a perfect 3-0 in league play, while the Lasers fall to 6-5 and 1-3.

The Sharks win their second straight match and improve to 2-2 on the season, while the Terriers fall to 2-3. The match followed the college's Ribbon Cutting Ceremony to officially open the Daly Athletics Complex. 

Simmons limited Thomas to five shots, while attempting 12, but Thomas held a 10-7 margin in penalty corners. 

First year forward Olivia Trull (Lowell, Mass.) tallied her first collegiate goal with a shot from the left side of the circle that snuck inside the right post to pull the Sharks even at 1-1 with 8:41 to play in the opening half. 

Simmons took the lead for good with the only goal of the second half. First year midfielder Hannah Scott (Claremont, N.H.)ripped a shot from just inside the circle that was tipped in by sophomore forward Missie Maiewski (Northampton, Mass.)just 4:46 into the second stanza for a 2-1 lead. 

Both teams were unable to score for the remainder of the half as the Sharks held on for the win. 

The Terriers broke into the scoring column with 20:27 to go in the first half to take a 1-0 lead. Sophomore midfielder Tiffany Weeks (Kennebunk, Maine) sent a cross from the top of the circle to the slot, where first year midfielder Kelci Faulkingham (Belfast, Maine) put the ball away for her first collegiate goal. 

First year goalie Audrey Simmons (Fairhaven, Mass.) made three saves to earn the victory for Simmons, while junior backEryn Melanson (Townshend, Mass.) registered her second defensive save in as many matches. Senior keeper Abbie Charrier (Waldo, Maine) stopped seven shots for Thomas and first year midfielder Danita Story (Cumberland Center, Maine) recorded a defensive save. 

The Sharks return to action on Tuesday, September 13 when they host Wheelock College on Daly Field at 7:00 p.m., while the Terriers host Mount Holyoke College on September 17 at 12:00 p.m.
