WINTHROP, Mass. – Simmons College field hockey player Sammy Rondeau (Franklin, Mass.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Field Hockey Player of the Week for the week of October 12-18, it was announced today by the league.

The honor marks the third time that a Shark has received the weekly award. Sophomore Julie Saltamartini (East Hampstead, N.H.) was named for the week of August 31 to September 6 and junior Jillian Mercer (Dartmouth, Mass.) was selected for the week of September 7-13.

The sophomore ranks second on the team with 15 points and seven goals, while placing 11th among league leaders in goals and 14th in points. The forward has started 10 of 14 matches and stands fifth in the conference with two game-winning tallies. The Franklin High School graduate tallied a career-high five points on two goals and an assist at Wheelock College on September 9 and has already tied her season output of goals from a year ago.

The Sharks are currently 10-4 overall, including 4-1 in league play. The team returns to action on Friday, October 16 when it closes out the regular-season conference slate with a match at Mount Ida College at 6:00 p.m.
