Saltamartini Named GNAC Field Hockey Player of the Week

WINTHROP, Mass. - Simmons College field hockey player Julie Saltamartini (East Hampstead, N.H.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Player of the Week for the week of August 31 to September 6. The accolade marks the third time in her career that she has earned the honor.

WINTHROP, Mass. - Simmons College field hockey player Julie Saltamartini (East Hampstead, N.H.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Player of the Week for the week of August 31 to September 6. The accolade marks the third time in her career that she has earned the honor. 

Saltamartini racked up three goals in three matches for the Sharks, including a pair of game-winners. The sophomore tallied at least one goal in all three contests. Saltamartini began the week by scoring her first marker of the season in a 5-0 victory at Becker College on September 1. The forward gave Simmons the winning edge with the game-winning score in a 2-1 win at Massachusetts Institute of Technology on September 3. The second-year player capped the week by scoring the lone goal, with less than 10 minutes left in the match, to give the Sharks a 1-0 road win over Worcester Polytechnic Institute on September 5.  

The Pinkerton Academy graduate is currently tied atop the league leaders with three goals and leads all players with a pair of game-winners. 

Saltamartini enjoyed a stellar first season in 2014, being named the GNAC Rookie of the Year, while earning a spot on the First Team. She racked up 34 points for the third-highest single-season total in school history. Saltamartini has tallied 40 points on 18 goals and four assists in 21 career matches for Simmons and has totaled six game-winning markers. She has helped the Sharks post a 16-6 record during her time at the school in the Fenway.

Simmons is currently 3-0 on the season and returns to action on Wednesday, September 9 when it takes on cross-street rival Wheelock College at 7:00 p.m. at the Winsor School.
