Field Hockey Earns 2014 Gladiator by SGI / NFHCA Collegiate National Academic Team Award

CHANDLER, Ariz. - The Simmons College field hockey team was named a recipient of the 2014 Gladiator by SGI/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Collegiate National Academic Team Award it was announced by the NFHCA. The honor marks the 14th straight year that the Sharks have earned the accolade.

CHANDLER, Ariz. - The Simmons College field hockey team was named a recipient of the 2014 Gladiator by SGI/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Collegiate National Academic Team Award it was announced by the NFHCA. The honor marks the 14th straight year that the Sharks have earned the accolade.

The National Academic Team Award recognizes those institutions that achieved a minimum team grade point average of 3.0 during the first semester of the 2014-15 academic year.

The team compiled a 3.33 GPA following the Fall semester at Simmons, including seven players with a 3.5 or higher and one student-athlete with a perfect 4.0 GPA.

The Sharks finished the season with a 13-6 mark, while winning the Great Northeast Athletic Conference crown for the first conference championship in program history. Simmons advanced to the NCAA Tournament, before bowing out in the first round with a 2-0 loss to host University of New England on November 12. The Sharks boasted an All-Region honoree as well as the GNAC Coach of the Year, Rookie of the Year and five All-Conference First Team selections.
