Saltamartini Named GNAC Field Hockey Rookie of the Week for Fourth Time

WINTHROP, Mass. - Simmons College field hockey player Julie Saltamartini (East Hampstead, N.H.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week for the week of September 1-7, it was announced today by the league.

The honor marks the second straight week she has earned the award.

WINTHROP, Mass. – Simmons College field hockey player Julie Saltamartini (East Hampstead, N.H.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week it was announced by the league today. The honor marks a league-high fourth time that she has won the award. She was also named the GNAC's top rookie last week as well as for the weeks of September 1-7 and September 8-14. 

In two matches, the first year tallied seven points on three goals and an assist for the Sharks. She potted a pair of goals, including the game-winner, in a 7-0 victory over Wheelock College on October 7 and capped the week with a goal and an assist on the game-winning tally as part of a 3-1 win over Lasell College on October 11. 

The forward has enjoyed an outstanding rookie season for Simmons, leading the squad with 24 points on 10 goals and four assists. Her point and goal total both rank her second among GNAC newcomers. A graduate of Pinkerton Academy, Saltamartini has notched at least one point in five straight matches to rack up 15 points from September 28 to October 11. She has started eight of 12 contests that she's appeared in and has registered multiple goals in four outings, including three game-winners. The Sharks own a 6-1 record when the first year tallies at least one point. 

Simmons has won five straight matches and is 9-4 overall, including a perfect 4-0 GNAC record to top the league standings. The Sharks will be in action again on Wednesday, October 15 when they host Bay Path College on Winsor Field at 7:00 p.m.
