BOSTON, Mass. – First year forward Julie Saltamartini (East Hampstead, N.H.) scored a pair of goals and sophomore keeper Brianna Rastello (Salem, N.H.) stopped all four shots she faced to lead the Simmons College field hockey team to a 4-0 victory over visiting Thomas College this afternoon on Winsor Field in Boston, Mass. The Sharks have won four of their last five – all shutout wins – and improve to 5-4 on the season, while the Terriers fall to 3-8 overall.

Saltamartini put Simmons on the board early in the first half when sophomore Mary Neidhardt (Middlefield, Conn.) put a cross on her stick in the right slot for a goal at 7:27 to provide the home team with a 1-0 edge. First year forward Kelly Ryan (Hatfield, Mass.) padded the Sharks' lead, just under 12 minutes later, when she blasted a shot from just inside the left side of the circle past the diving Thomas keeper and into the right corner at 19:02 for a 2-0 lead. Simmons capped the scoring just 3:32 into the second half when senior forward Kelly Williamson (Natick, Mass.) carried the ball down the field and found Saltamartini for a one-timer that resulted in her team-high sixth goal of the year and a 3-0 cushion for the Sharks at 38:32.

Rastello earned the victory for Simmons with her fourth shutout of the season and fifth of her career, while sophomore goalie Abbie Charrier (Waldo, Maine) stopped two of the four shots she faced in the opening 19:18 of play for the Terriers, before junior goalie Brittany Fox (Lovell, Maine) closed out the final 50:42 by turning away four of five shots.

The Sharks will be in action again on Tuesday, September 30 when they host Smith College on Winsor Field at 7:00 p.m., while Thomas travels to Henniker, N.H. on October 4 to play New England College at 5:00 p.m.
