BANGOR, ME - The Simmons Sharks Field Hockey team fell to the Husson Eagles, 2-0 Sunday afternoon in a North Atlantic Conference battle.

The Eagles got an early goal from Sabrina Vaillancourt off an assist from Mariah Arno just 1:09 into the game. That would prove to be the game-winner, as Husson goaltender Maicee Gustin stopped all 12 shots she faced for her first shutout of the season.

The Eagles got an insurance goal early in the second half as Kara Poirier was able to put one home, beating Sharks goalkeeper Renna Smith (Belfast, Maine) off a rebound in front of the net.

Despite the loss, the Sharks defense played strong all game as Husson was in control of possession for most of the contest. Smith played well in net, stopping 15 of 17 shots she faced. Kelly Williamson (Natick, Mass.) led all Sharks with four shots on goal.

The win improves Husson to 8-7 overall, and 6-1 in North Atlantic Conference play. The loss drops Simmons to 4-12 overall, 3-5 in the NAC.

The Eagles will host a doubleheader to wrap up the 2012 regular season next weekend. They will play Colby-Sawyer Saturday at noon, and Castleton State Sunday at 1 PM. The Sharks return to action on Saturday, October 20th when they travel to Lasell College for a pivotal NAC conference match up at 1:00 p.m.
