Terriers Defeat Sharks 3-2 in Field Hockey

WATERVILLE, Maine ? The Thomas College Field Hockey team defeated the Simmons Sharks 3-2 in a North Atlantic Conference match-up this afternoon. With the win the Terriers improve to 4-5 overall (2-1 NAC) while the Sharks fall to 5-5 overall (0-3 NAC).

NASHUA, N.H. ? The Simmons College Sharks were too much to handle as they defeated the Rivier College Raiders, 9-4 in North Atlantic Conference Field Hockey action Tuesday evening.

WATERVILLE, Maine – The Thomas College Field Hockey team defeated the Simmons Sharks 3-2 in a North Atlantic Conference match-up this afternoon. With the win the Terriers improve to 4-5 overall (2-1 NAC) while the Sharks fall to 5-5 overall (0-3 NAC).

Senior Brittany Moore jumpstarted the Terrier offense when she tallied the first goal of the game 53 seconds into the match. The Terriers struck again four minutes later when first year Jaclyn Hartwell netted her first collegiate goal.

The Sharks were held scoreless in the first half by a strong Thomas defense led by sophomore goalkeeper Sofia Sourgiadakis who stopped seven of the eight shots.

At halftime the scoreboard read 2-0 Thomas.

Sharks sophomore Monica Doucette (Rockport, Maine) cut the Terriers lead in half, getting Simmons on the scoreboard when she found the back of the net off of a corner taken by sophomore Kelly Fisher (Yarmouth, Maine.) at the 40:06.

Sophomore Lauren Hachey gave the Terriers insurance when she scored off of an assist from junior Miranda Tinsman.

But the Sharks were relentless, and posted their second score of the game when freshman Mercedes Godin (Essex Junction, Vt.) tallied at the 63:47 mark on an assist by Aslyn Dindorf (Fryeburg, Maine). 


Sourgiadakis records the win, while Renna Smith (Belfast, Maine) shoulders the loss for the Sharks.

Simmons resumes field hockey action Wednesday, when they travel to Smith College for a non-conference match up at 4:30 p.m. The Terriers are back in action when they face Colby College on September 28th at 7 p.m.
