CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Simmons Field Hockey suffered their first loss of the season to host MIT in non-conference field hockey action on Jack Barry field Thursday night. Six different players for the Engineers found the back of the net in the 6-0 win. Kameron Klauber (Carlsbad, Calif.) led the way with a goal and three assists to help the Engineers improve to 4-0 to start the season.

MIT got on the board early, as Klauber found Katie Kauffman (Olney, Md.), who beat the keeper with a shot from just inside the top of the circle, giving the hosts a 1-0 lead just 1:08 into the contest. Klauber picked up her second helper less than three minutes later after Kimberly Barker (Camden, N.Y.) tipped a ball into the cage from in front of the net.

Klauber picked up her fifth goal of the season at the 19:40 mark of the first half, as MIT took a 3-0 advantage into the break. The Sharks regrouped during halftime and came out with new determination, pressuring the Engineers from the second half whistle.

MIT freshman Sarah Walker (Waterville, Maine) recorded her first career intercollegiate goal midway through the second to extend the lead to 4-0. Molly Duffy (New Providence, N.J.) and Anna Teruya (Hockessin, Del.) also got in on the scoring for the Cardinal and Gray later in the half.

Sophomore Renna Smith (Belfast, Maine) had a busy night in net for the Sharks, stopping an impressive 16 of the 22 shots MIT put on goal.

This weekend, the Sharks will travel to Salve Regina for a non-conference contest on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
