Doucette's OT goal sends Simmons to 2-1 win at Salve Regina

BOSTON, Mass. ? Simmons Field Hockey scored early and often in a 6-0 victory against Wheelock College on a rainy Tuesday evening at The Winsor School Fields. The Sharks jumped out to 2-0 lead on goals from freshman Kelly Williamson (Natick, Mass.), and Katelyn Tighe, (Easton, Mass.). Freshman Mercedes Godin (Essex Jct., Vt.) completed the first half scoring with her first collegiate goal.

NEWPORT, R.I. - Simmons College sophomore Monica Doucette (Rockport, Maine) slipped the game-winning goal past Salve Regina University field hockey keeper Murphy McCann (Westerly, R.I.) just 4:13 into overtime as the Sharks defeated the Seahawks, 2-1, in non-league action.

Simmons improved to 3-1 on the season while Salve Regina fell to 2-2 overall. The Sharks are now 6-4 all-time in their meetings with the Seahawks and ended a two-game win streak for Salve Regina in the series.

Senior Katelyn Tighe (Easton, Mass.) scored the game's first goal at 15:41 with an assist from Mercedes Godin (Essex Junction, Vt.).

Salve Regina tied the score at 1-1 before halftime as sophomore Chelsea Smith (Getzville, N.Y.) scored her first collegiate goal at the 30:07 mark.

After a scoreless second half, Doucette took a pass from Tighe to end the game in overtime.

Salve Regina hosts Bridgewater State University on Tuesday while Simmons returns to its campus to host Regis College on Tuesday, September 13th at 7:00 p.m.
