Simmons Field Hockey is gearing up for their second season under Head Coach Amanda Maxwell. The Sharks finished the 2010 season with an overall record of 6-11 and went 2-5 in the North Atlantic Conference. With multiple one-goal losses on close calls throughout the 2010 season, the team will strive to turn the tight games into wins this fall. "As the season progressed, we grew as a team both on and off the field and really started to learn to be competitive" said Maxwell.

With no graduating seniors, the team will look to build on its momentum of last season. Senior returners Katelyn Tighe (Easton, Mass.), Kelly Fisher (Yarmouth, Maine), and Lee Sutherland (Wolfeboro, N.H.) will be looked upon to anchor the midfield and be leaders on the field. Senior Sasha Reilly (Wilmington, Mass.) will continue to lead a strong returning defensive line. The Sharks will also look to sophomore newcomers Leanne Luke (Newton, Mass.), and Courtney St. Pierre (New Bedford, Mass.) to make an immediate impact.

The senior leadership will play a key role in integrating 11 new faces into the 2011 roster. First Year's Meghan Fay (Foxboro, Mass.), Mercedes Godin (Essex Jct, Vt.), Aslyn Dindorf (Fryeburg, Maine), and Kelly Williamson (Natick, Mass.) will bring strength to the midfield and transitions, while Avery Hines (Newburyport, Mass.) will join a strong defensive line. "With 9 returning players, and 11 newcomers, I expect a high level of play and competitive spirit. This group of 20 student-athletes is motivated to work hard and aim for success on a daily basis" said Maxwell.

The Sharks open their season on September 1st at Western New England at 7:00 p.m. They host Wheelock College on September 6th in their home opener at 7:00 p.m.
