Terriers Nip Sharks, 3-2

Simmons Field Hockey was defeated at home on Saturday, 3-2, by North Atlantic Conference opponent Thomas College. Freshman Monica Doucette (Rockport, Maine) scored twice for the Sharks, but it was not enough to push past the Terriers. With the loss, Simmons drops to 3-5 overall (1-1 NAC) while Thomas advances to 3-6 overall (1-1 NAC).

Play flowed back and forth between Simmons and the visitors very evenly, with both teams attempting 11 shots each during the contest. Thomas' Claire Wyman struck first in the 27th minute on a Kellie Martel assist to put the guests up 1-0.

Simmons answered back when Doucette found the back of the box with just four minutes remaining in the first half, tying up the score at 1-1 heading in to halftime.

In the second half, Thomas brought the score to 2-1 in the 49th minute when Ally Kennedy hit her target, assisted by Katie Foyle.

Doucette rallied again with another unassisted goal eight minutes later, again tying the contest at 2-2.

Foyle scored the Thomas game-winning goal in the 60th minute off a sharp pass from Ali Kriegel just in front of the Sharks' goal, bringing the score to 3-2, where it would remain until the horn.

In goal for the Terriers, Megan Denby played 70 minutes, allowing two and saving two. Sharks keeper Renna Smith (Belfast, Maine) also played two full halves, saving none and allowing three.

Simmons will suit up again on Sunday, October 3 to take on NAC guests University of Maine- Farmington at 1:00pm. Thomas will travel to Lasell for a NAC matchup at 1:00pm on Sunday.
