Freshman goalkeeper Mary Simeoli (Westfield, MA), made three saves in the first period, but was unable to stop the MIT attack, who outshot the Sharks 17-7. Bensey Schnip (Baltic, CT) struck first off an assist from Virginia Nicholson, while Nicholson found the net several minutes later after an assist from Jessica Oleinik (Ellicott City, MD).

Jen Szkolt (Palmer, MA) made her return to goal for the Sharks in the second period after a pre-season injury forced her to the bench for the start of the season. "Jen was a vocal leader who helped us to a strong second period," said Head Coach Kate Leonard. Szkolt made seven stops for the Sharks, and allowed one in the 43rd minute to MIT's Anna Teruya (Hockessin, DE), off a penalty corner by Nirupama Yechoor (Sylvania, OH).

"Overall, it was a solid game and we look forward to starting at the level we left in the second half, and moving upward from there against Mt Holyoke," said Leonard.

Simmons Field Hockey returns to action on Saturday, September 13 at 1:00pm, away at Mount Holyoke.
