Two Simmons field hockey players received honors from the North Atlantic Confrence, as announced by the conference on Tuesday afternoon.  Freshman back Kelly Garrity (Reading, Mass.) was named to the All-Conference Second Team and junior forward Emily Sypher (Orono, Maine) garnered All-Conference Honorable Mention honors.

Garrity started in 15 games this season and finished the year ranked fourth on the team in scoring with two goals and one assist for five points.

"Kelly Garrity was a solid, strong, vocal, positive teammate for us throughout the year," said Head Coach Kate Leonard.  "As a sweeper, Kelly was our last line of field-defense and she played the position with poise and confidence, coming up with the ball far more often than not. Her strong free hits helped us on transitions and she used them to score a couple times as well.  Kelly really improved in her ability to see the field, challenge the opposing offense, and her communication. The best part is she loves the game and does it all with hustle, heart, and a smile.  I am not surprised she garnered this recognition and she is well deserving, we look forward to more great seasons with Kelly."

Sypher was the second leading scorer for the Sharks this season with 13 points.  She accumulated four goals and five assists, seeing action in all 18 games this year. She ranked tenth in the conference in assists this season.   For her career, Sypher has 27 points on 10 goals and seven assists.

"Emily Sypher was a quiet, calm, steady offensive power for us this year," said Leonard.  "She isn't flashy or showy, but simply gets the job done. This includes taking the ball up the left wing time and time again, making great decisions and reads on how to beat her opponents, crossing the ball in front of the net, and setting up our corner plays.  Emily is a great observer and her comments helped the team improve; others believe in her and look up to her. Individually, Emily improved in her ability to take a strong shot quickly, recover on defense, and communicate. We are lucky to have her for another season."
