Quinlan Breaks Five-Year Old GNAC Record Meet Record on Day One

WORCESTER, Mass. – Sophomore Carli Quinlan brought down a five-year old record on the first day of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championship Meet as the Sharks sit second after Day One on Friday.

In the prelims of the 200-yard freestyle, Quinlan swam away from the rest of the field and posted a personal-best time. Touching the wall with a time of 1:55.84, Quinlan came .57 seconds shy of tying Simmons' alum Aine Scholand's 2019 GNAC meet mark of 1:55.27.

However, Scholand's record was not going to stay for very long. Later that evening, in the championship finals, Quinlan took down the mark, clocking in with an impressive 1:54.44 – two seconds shy of an NCAA B-cut time – to claim the individual champion honors.

It was not the only individual event champion the Sharks collected on the day. The Sharks began and ended the day with a pair of season-best relay times. The quartet of Camelia Hannah, Katelyn Quinlan, Carli Quinlan and Kenzie Lowry posted a time of 1:54.41 in the 200-yard medley relay. The Sharks ended the night with a first-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay.

The foursome of Katelyn Quinlan, Bee Eckels, Kenzie Lowry, and Carli Quinlan shaved nearly 10 seconds off their previous season-best time, touching the wall with a time of 3:45.80 – seven seconds faster than Norwich University.

After day one of the 2024 GNAC Championship Meet, the Sharks currently are in second place with a total of 275 points – trailing Norwich University by only 51 points.
