More Top Collegiate Times and Personal Bests for Swimming and Diving On Day Three of MIT Invitational

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Simmons swimming and diving closed out the MIT Invitational the fall semester with their third straight day of strong swims on Sunday afternoon.

The Sharks began the day registering their season-best time in the 200-yard medley relay. Simmons A quartet of Camelia Hannah, Katelyn Quinlan, Anna Kelly and Carli Quinlan posted a time of 2:01.78 in the prelims. In the evening session, the foursome continued to show improvement, clipping a second off their earlier time, touching the wall in 2:00.75.

Simmons' B squad of Laura Luthi, Charlotte Doherty, Isabel Barry-Ruiz and Clarissa Weaver came in with a time of 2:17.93.  

In the lone distance event of day three, senior Katelyn Quinlan and first-year Anna Kelly both eclipsed their previous personal-bests in the 500-yard freestyle. Quinlan dropped eight seconds touching the wall with a time of 5:33.97 in the finals, while Kelly shaved off a staggering 20 seconds with a time of 6:04.73 in the prelims.

Finishing second in the C finals of the 100-yard freestyle, sophomore Carli Quinlan finished touched the wall with a time of 54.81 seconds – a half a second shy of tying her personal-best. It was the second time on the day, Quinlan came close to eclipsing a personal-best. Two events prior, she clocked a time of 1:01.90 in the 100-yard butterfly.

Fellow first-year Bee Eckels eclipsed personal-best times in the 200-yard breaststroke as well as the 200-yard IM. In the 200 breaststroke, Eckels saw nearly 10 seconds drop from her previous best time in the 200-yard breaststroke, clocking in with a time of 2:46.66, while posting a time of 2:28.76 in the 200 IM.

SIMMONS HIGHLIGHTS

  • Senior Katelyn Quinlan and first-year Anna Kelly posted a personal-best time in the 500-yard freestyle with time of 5:33.97 and 6:04.73, respectively.
  • First-year Bee Eckels eclipsed personal-bests in the 200 breast (2:46.66) and the 200 IM (2:28.76).
  • Sophomore Carli Quinlan placed second in the C finals of the 100 freestyle with a time of 54.81.
