Swimming and Diving Experiences Season and Collegiate Bests on Second Day of MIT Invitational

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Simmons swimming and diving experience a pair of season bests and one collegiate best as they returned to the pool for the second day of the MIT Invitational on Saturday.

The Sharks' 200-yard freestyle relay quartet of Hailey Stuck, Lily Martin, Caroline Mazariegos, and Carli Quinlan began the day qualifying for the B finals posting a season-best time of 1:45.65 in the prelims. The group opened the night cap of a plethora of outstanding performances, registering a time of 1:45.87.

First-year Carli Quinlan clocked the program's first sub two-minute time in the 200 freestyle for the first time this season. Competing in the B final, the Haverhill native touched the wall with a season-best, top time of 1:59.06. Later in the meet, Quinlan continued to show steady improvement clocking a collegiate-best time of 24.95 in the 50-yard freestyle to earn 3.5 points for the Sharks.

Senior captain Meg Driscoll and junior Caroline Mazariegos also posted a pair of season top times. Competing in the C-final of the 100-yard breaststroke, Driscoll beat her previous season top time by two seconds, registering a time of 1:12.52. One event later, Mazariegos placed second in the C finals of the 100-yard backstroke touching the wall with a season-best time of 1:06.22.

Simmons capped off the second night of the MIT Invitational with the 400-yard freestyle relay. The quartet of Mazariegos, Driscoll, Martin and Carli Quinlan posted a time of 4:20.23 and reeled in 26 points for the Sharks in the process. 

SIMMONS HIGHLIGHTS

  • First-year Carli Quinlan registered a pair of season-bests, including a collegiate-best, In the 200 free (1:59.06) and the 50 free (24.95).
  • Junior Caroline Mazariegos finished second the C finals of the 100 backstroke, clocking in with a time of 1:06.22.
  • Sophomore Camelia Hannah also participated in the C finals of the 100 backstroke, finishing with a time of 1:08.35.
  • Simmons 200 freestyle relay squad (Hailey Stuck, Lily Martin, Caroline Mazariegos, Carli Quinlan) recorded a season-best time of 1:45.65 in the prelims to insert them in the B finals.
