Piernas Eclipses Collegiate-Best Time in the Mile; Highlights Swimming and Diving on Night One of MIT Invitational

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Four years after clocking her personal-best time mile, senior Eva Piernas clipped nine tenths of a second off her 2019 time to lead Simmons swimming and diving on night one of the MIT Invitational on Friday evening.

In the second even of the evening, Piernas placed ninth in the 1,650 freestyle, touching the wall with a time of 18:50.62 – nine tenths of second faster than her previous collegiate top time. Fellow senior captain Sophie Stevenson also participated in the mile, finishing with a time of 21:00.32.

The Sharks opened the night with the 800 freestyle relay. The Simmons' quartet of Katelyn Quinlan, Camelia Hannah, Caroline Mazariegos and Carli Quinlan finished with a time of 8:36.93.
