Swimming Diving Sees A Trio of First Place Finishes and Season-Bests Against Smith

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – In a non-conference dual meet against Smith College, Simmons swimming and diving (1-2) saw a pair of swimmers claim a couple of first place finishes despite falling to the Pioneers, 188-88, on Saturday afternoon.  

Reigning GNAC Rookie of the Week Carli Quinlan won a pair of sprint freestyle races with season-best times. In the 50-yard freestyle, she edged out Smith's Caroline Kolmodin for first, touching the wall with a time of 25.88. One event later, Quinlan created enough separation from Kolmodin in the 100-yard freestyle to finish with a season-best time of 55:92.  

In the meet's second event of the day, senior distance swimmer Eva Piernas clipped 12 seconds off her time from last week against Merrimack, clocking in with a time of 11:44.0 – six seconds head of the Pioneer's Julia Petrino. Sophomore Camelia Hannah also beat out her season-best time in the 100-yard backstroke by .44 of a second, finishing with a time of 1:08.19. 

The Sharks 200-yard freestyle relay quartet of Eva Piernas, Sophie Stevenson, Katelyn Quinlan, and Carli Quinlan, touched wall a second ahead of Pioneers foursome, clocking in with a time of 1:50.90. 

SIMMONS HIGHLIGHTS

  • First-year Carli Quinlan won a the 50- and 100-yard freestyle, touching the wall with season-best times of 25.88 and 55.92, respectively.
  • Senior distance swimmer Eva Piernas finished first in the 1,000-yard freestyle, finishing with a time of 11:44.0 – clipping 12 seconds off last week's time against Merrimack.
  • Senior Katie Castle posted a season-best time of 1:34.72 in the 100-yard breaststroke and a time of 7:14.24 in the 500-yard freestyle.  
  • The Simmons 200-yard freestyle relay quartet of Eva Piernas, Sophie Stevenson, Katelyn Quinlan, and Carli Quinlan posting a time of 1:50.90.
