Swimming & Diving Has Strong Performances in Merrimack Dual Meet

ANDOVER, Mass. – Simmons swimming and diving (1-1) dropped back to .500 on the season following an inter-divisional dual meet against Merrimack College on Saturday afternoon.

Despite the loss, the Sharks still had a tremendous amount of strong performance swimming against some higher-level competition. The 200-yard backstroke was a photo finish with junior Caroline Mazariegos touching the wall half a second before Merrimack's Sarah Holstein with a time of 2:25.08.

The Sharks saw success in the next event led by senior Meg Driscoll. Driscoll was able to create some separation from her and Merrimack's Jenna Durgin to grab first place with a time of 2:42.31. Junior Katelyn Quinlan also participate in the vent, touching the wall with a time of 2:48.21.

Quinlan's sister, Carli, also experienced early success in the pool. In the 50-yard freestyle, finished a tenth of second behind the Warriors' Cameron Zuliani, posting a time of 26.45.

Distance swimmer senior Eva Piernas clipped two seconds off her time from Friday evening the 500-yard freestyle, finishing with a time of 5:53.27. Sophomore Camelia Hannah also saw time come off her 100-yard backstroke time, dropping a second, with a time of 1:08.63.

The Sharks rounded out the meet with the 200-yard freestyle relay. The quartet of Caroline Mazariegos, Lily Martin, Eva Piernas and Carli Quinlan finished with the second-best time of 1:50.48.  

SIMMONS HIGHLIGHTS

  • Junior Caroline Mazariegos posted a first-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke, finishing with a time of 2:25.08.
  • Senior Meg Driscoll also finished first in the 200-yard breaststroke posting a time of 2:42.31.
  • Senior Eva Piernas dropped two seconds off her season-best time in the 500-yard free with a time of 5:53.27.
