BOSTON – Simmons swimming and diving returns to the pool this weekend with the three-day MIT Invitational beginning Friday, Dec. 3 at 6:30 p.m. in Cambridge, Mass.

What to Know | Meet Information

  • Simmons will compete against five programs, including three nationally-ranked programs, host No. 9 MIT, No.10 Tufts and No. 18 Wheaton College in addition to meeting Wellesley for the second time this semester.
  • Competition will begin on Friday evening, Dec. 3 at 6:30 p.m. with the 800-yard free relay and the 1,650-yard freestyle. The Sharks will have one squad competing in the relay, while distance swimmer junior Eva Piernas will swim in the mile race.
  • Saturday, Dec. 4 will open with the 200-yard free relay before prelims of the 200 fly, 200 free, 100 breaststroke, 100 backstroke, 400 IM and 50 free at 10 a.m. before finals at 6 p.m. and conclude the night with the 400 medley relay.
  • The invitational will conclude on Sunday, Dec. 5 with the 200 medley relay and prelims for the 500 free, 200 backstroke, 100 fly, 100 free and 200 IM at 10 a.m. before finals at 6 p.m. and ending with the 400 free relay.

What to Know: Simmons Highlights

  • Simmons is coming of an inter-division dual meet against Division I Merrimack College, where junior Meg Driscoll posted a personal-best time and season-top time in the 200-yard breaststroke. Driscoll touched the wall with the time of 2:38.84 to finish first and secure GNAC Swimmer of the Week honors.
  • Junior distance swimmer Eva Piernas matched her season-best time in 1,000-yard free, touching the wall with a time of 11:22.74 in their last dual meet against Merrimack. Piernas also posted a top-time of 5:34.12 in the 500-yard free against the University of New England on Nov. 13.
  • First-year swimmer Ella Harmon grabbed GNAC Rookie of the Week honors in the  second week of the season after posting a time of 2:30.83 in the 200-yard butterfly. Harmon broke her own top-time in the 200 fly against Merrimack, clocking in at 2:29.24.
  • Harmon also holds the team's top times in the 50 fly (29.15), and 100 fly (1:03.67).
  • Fellow first-year Camelia Hannah registered a personal-best time in the 50- and 100-yard backstroke at the University of New England dual meet, touching the wall with times of 30.33 and 1:05.94, respectively.
  • Senior Lauren Howard posted as season-best time in the 100-yard freestyle at the Merrimack dual meet, cutting .23 seconds from her previous season-best, touching the wall with the time of 56.00 seconds.
  • First-year Emma Serth recorded a personal-best time in the 200-yard free, touching the wall in 2:10.76 against the University of New England on Nov. 13 to finish in first place.

UP NEXT
Following the semester break, Simmons returns to the pool in the new year on Saturday, January 8, hosting Regis College and Colby-Sawyer in three-team dual meet beginning at noon.
